What a helper does

Cooking

Daily family meals, cooked to your household's taste rather than to a general standard.

Cooking is the single most-requested skill on the register and the one where families are most often disappointed, because "can cook" means nothing on its own. A helper who cooks beautiful Filipino food may have never made a machboos, and a family who eats Khaleeji six nights a week will notice by the second week.

So the register records cuisines, not just the skill. Filter by what you actually eat, and ask her to cook one meal before anything is agreed — every good arrangement we have seen started with that.

What the work involves

  • Planning and cooking the daily family meal
  • Shopping, or a list precise enough for somebody else to shop from
  • Cooking separately for a baby or a restricted diet
  • Managing the kitchen — stock, rotation, and what is about to turn
  • Cooking for guests, at whatever scale your household entertains

We are interviewing now. Every profile has to pass five checks before it appears here, and we would rather show you nothing than show you someone we have not met. Leave us your details and we will write to you the week it opens.
