Experience with additional needs
Helpers who have worked in a household where a child or adult needs more than the usual.
This covers a wide range — autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, physical disability, a child on a feeding tube — and no helper is experienced in all of it. A profile marked here means she has worked in such a household and the family we telephoned described what that involved.
It does not mean she is a therapist, and we will not present her as one. Where a household needs clinical input, that is a separate professional and a separate arrangement; what a helper provides is consistency, patience and a pair of hands that already knows the routine.
What the work involves
- Following a routine or programme set by a therapist, exactly
- Personal care where it is needed, done with dignity
- Recognising escalation early and knowing what calms it
- Accompanying to sessions and appointments
- Keeping notes that a parent or therapist can actually use

We are interviewing now. Every profile has to pass five checks before it appears here, and we would rather show you nothing than show you someone we have not met. Leave us your details and we will write to you the week it opens.
